CA22128 - Establishing Networks to Implement the Principles on Effective Interviewing for Investigations (IMPLEMENDEZ)

Interviews conducted by law enforcement with suspects, victims, and witnesses are vital for justice outcomes. Globally, two main approaches are evident

Investigative Interviewing: An ethical approach that seeks reliable information while respecting human rights, consistent with the 2021 UN ‘Mendez Principles,’ developed by a team of experts led by Professor Juan Mendez. These principles are grounded in science, law, and ethics.

Unethical Practices: Many countries still use methods based on guilt presumption and confession-seeking, often involving manipulation, intimidation, or torture, which lead to injustices and failed investigations.

This Action aims to establish networks of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to promote the Mendez Principles, replacing harmful practices with ethical interviewing methods.

Participates in this COST Action the Integrated Researcher of CEAD Francisco Suárez, Profesor Inês Fernandes Godinho.
