Markus Wagner
Markus Wagner was born in 1989 in Augsburg. He completed his secondary education (Abitur) in 2007 and studied law at the University of Augsburg, graduating in 2011. During his studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Criminal and Procedural Law, Economic Criminal Law, and International Criminal Law under Professor Dr. Thomas Rotsch. He was also a fellow of the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation for Freedom from 2009 to 2011.
In 2011, he completed his First State Examination in Law and became a scientific assistant at the same chair. From 2011 to 2016, he worked as a research associate at Justus Liebig University Giessen, also receiving a doctoral fellowship from the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation. He earned his Doctor of Laws (Dr. iur.) in 2015 with a dissertation on the nature of economic criminal law, winning the Gießen Legal Studies Society Doctoral Prize and the WisteV Prize in 2016.
He completed his legal clerkship in 2016 and obtained his Second State Examination. Between 2017 and 2022, he served as an Academic Councilor at Justus Liebig University Giessen. In 2021, he represented the Chair of Criminal Law at the University of Leipzig. In 2022, he habilitated at Justus Liebig University with a thesis on omission offenses and received the qualification to teach Criminal Law, Procedural Law, Economic Criminal Law, and International Criminal Law.
From April to September 2022, he represented the Chair of Criminal Law at Philipps University Marburg. Since October 2022, he has held the Chair of Criminal Law and Procedural Law at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University Bonn.
