Connection between the Faculty of Law of the Lusófona University and the Community - Luso-Brazilian Colloquium on the Prevention and Repair of Accidents at Work

On November 7, 2024, the Judicial School of the Regional Labor Court of the 6th Region (Brazil) was the stage for an important meeting to reflect on issues relating to safety and health at work in Portugal and Brazil, with the recipients magistrates, judicial officials and the legal community in that region.

The Luso-Brazilian Colloquium on Prevention and Repair of Accidents at Work brought together Professors from both Schools and proposed fundamental discussions for the evolution of critical thinking about the sufficiency or insufficiency of Law in the matter.

Representing the Faculty of Law of the Lusófona University, Professor Carolina de Freitas e Silva addressed the topic “Worker protection standards and judicial protection in Portugal”, while Professor António Monteiro Fernandes dealt with the “Substantive aspects of the replacement of work accidents: accountability and proof”.

The organization of the event resulted from the Technical Cooperation Agreement signed on July 25, 2023 between the Regional Labor Court of the 6th Region, the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário de Lisboa, and the Center for Advanced Studies in Law (CEAD ) Francisco Suárez, through the Judicial School of the Regional Labor Court. It should be noted that the Technical Cooperation Agreement aims, among other objectives, at “sharing knowledge and experiences among the participants, regarding health and safety at work, as well as accident prevention”, as well as “the development of programs educational and joint research projects that result in effective complementation of available human, material and information resources”.
