The book Mercies in the Construction of the Social State. Opportunities, merit and future was published by Professor António Tavares, integrated researcher at CEAD Francisco Suárez, and Rita Proença.
At a time when the economic vitality of the continuous construction of our Social State is being discussed in Portugal, the authors seemed wise to bring into this discussion the role played by the social sector and, in this, the importance of Misericórdias, in the creation of this great civic heritage and public service.
When we read article 82, no. 4, paragraph d) of the Constitution of the Republic, we are able to assess the legislator's concern in giving constitutional dignity to the social sector.
Ideological issues, often artificially generated, end up creating additional difficulties in the development and role of this sector in the construction of the Social State.
