The book The Contemporary Relevance of Durkheim’s Thought in the 21st Century, authored by Professor Dr. Sérgio Vieira da Silva, has been published.
More than a century after the death of Émile Durkheim, it is important to determine whether his thought remains relevant. This work demonstrates the richness and complexity of the sociological thought of a scholar who did not confine himself to reflections of a purely methodological nature.
Indeed, it was Durkheim who defined social facts as the object of the new science—a fundamental step in the emancipation of Sociology from Social Philosophy. After all, a science can only truly justify its designation if it defines its specific object and indicates the method it will privilege in order to achieve it.
