Mercedes Yela Uceda has been a visiting professor at Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid, Spain, since 2017, teaching various subjects such as Criminal Law, International Criminal Law, and Gender Violence, among others. She has published a monograph and numerous works on gender violence, illicit trafficking of migrants, and the institution of refuge. She holds academic qualifications, having graduated in Criminology and Law, obtained a Master's in Criminal Justice (Criminal and Procedural Law), and earned a Master's in Advocacy. Additionally, she holds a Doctorate in Law from Rey Juan Carlos University. Her doctoral thesis, titled "The Protection of the Rights of Refugees from the Perspective of International Criminal Law," received the qualification of "sobresaliente cum laude."
Her Research Stay took place from 20/01/2024 to 02/09/2024 and covered various topics, such as gender-based violence, migration, human trafficking, and terrorism.
