Paulo de Brito

Paulo de Brito is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of Lusófona University - Porto University Center. From December 2014 to July 2018, he served as the Director of the 1st Cycle of Studies in Law at Lusófona University in Porto. He teaches in the 1st and 2nd cycles of studies in the areas of International, Public, and Private Law, as well as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). In 2015, he obtained the Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

Paulo de Brito completed his degrees in Law at the Portuguese Catholic University, Administration and Management at the Helsinki School of Economics, and a Master's degree in International Relations before the 1999 Bologna Declaration. In addition to his Ph.D. in Law (specialization in International Law) from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, he holds a post-doctorate in Public Law from the University of Santiago de Compostela (June 2020). Since February 2018, he has been an arbitrator at CIMPAS (Center for Information, Mediation, Ombudsman, and Arbitration of Insurance), and from November 2018, he has been an Observer at CEPEJ (European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice) of the Council of Europe.

Before entering full-time academia, for four years, Paulo de Brito had already taught Legislation of Social Communication at the School of Journalism in Porto. Prior to his academic career, he served as the founding judge and coordinator of the Peace Courts in Gaia (2002) and Porto (2004). Additionally, he worked as a senior technician of the 1st class at the Directorate General for Reintegration and Prison Services of the Ministry of Justice, starting from 1993.
