Professor José de Faria Costa Elected to the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei

A moment of great joy for Universidade Lusófona!

Professor José de Faria Costa, President of CEAD Francisco Suárez, has been elected to the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, becoming the first Portuguese citizen to join this distinguished Academy.

As is well known, the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, headquartered in the 15th-century Palazzo Corsini, is the oldest scientific academy in the world. Its mission is to promote, coordinate, integrate, and disseminate scientific knowledge in its highest expressions, within the framework of the unity and universality of culture. Through its halls and corridors — which house a collection of over 600,000 volumes of scientific, historical, literary, astronomical, physical, and botanical works — have passed illustrious figures such as Righi and Pacinotti, Fermi, Pasteur, Röntgen, Einstein, Mommsen, Wilamowitz, Comparetti, Croce, Gentile, and one of its most eminent members, Galileo Galilei.

Professor José de Faria Costa will join the Classe di Scienze Morali, in the category of Scienze Giuridiche (Legal Sciences).

The inauguration ceremony will take place on November 14, 2025, at the headquarters of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome, starting at 11:00 a.m. (Italy) / 10:00 a.m. (Portugal), and will be broadcast via streaming. The event will be available to watch online.
