Participation of Professors from the Faculty of Law of Universidade Lusófona in the organization and holding of an International Congress under the theme “Decent work: a Portuguese-Brazilian dialogue on the UN 2030 Agenda”
A landmark event took place on the 6th and 7th of November 2024, in the city of Recife (Brazil), on the campus of Centro Universitário Frassinetti do Recife – UniFAFIRE (Rede Dorotéias), regarding the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Organization , especially regarding those objectives that are directly or indirectly related to dignified or decent work, economic growth, the construction of effective institutions, the promotion of peace and social justice.
The International Congress, promoted by UniFAFIRE, at a time when it completed 84 years of existence, in partnership with Universidade Lusófona, brought together experts from Brazil and Portugal to share reflections and discuss the UN 2030 Agenda.
Among the participants, Professor António Monteiro Fernandes was present at the Congress, who gave the opening lecture on the theme “Constitutional Labor Law and the decent work agenda”.Also present was Professor Carolina de Freitas e Silva, who addressed the topic “Labor Law as hard law and its derogation in the context of legal actions”; and Professor Marlene Ferreira Mendes who spoke about “Organizational models, occupational risks and the right to disconnect”.
The event was also marked by the launch of the collective work "DECENT WORK: a dialogue beyond borders on the UN 2030 Agenda", with the contribution of Professors from the Faculty of Law of Universidade Lusófona. Following the initiative of a call for papers that went beyond national borders, the collective work brought together more than fifty articles that were organized into two volumes, involving Brazilian and Portuguese authors. The following authors of the book included: Carolina de Freitas e Silva, Joana Neto, José Gonçalves Machado, Luís Manuel Pica, Mário Silveiro Barros, Marlene Mendes and Tiago Cochofel de Azevedo.
The purpose of the work, which can be consulted in the CEAD Bibliographic Center (room N.1.5), is to present a set of reflections on the path taken and to be followed towards the sustainable development of nations, necessarily involving the notion of work in conditions that dignify man.
