Catherine Maia

Catherine Maia is a Professor of International Law at Lusófona University and a Visiting Professor at Sciences Po Paris, the Catholic University of Lyon, the Catholic University of Lille (France), and SWISS UMEF (Switzerland). She has extensive international experience in teaching, research, and consultancy. As a researcher, her work focuses primarily on public international law, the protection of human rights (universal and regional), international criminal law, international humanitarian law, the use of armed force, and international peace and security. She has an extensive record of scientific publications and active participation in scholarly societies and associations. As an expert, she serves as an Assessor Judge at the French National Asylum Court, appointed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and provides legal consultancy to international organizations, diplomatic missions, and law firms. She has taken part in various missions both in Europe and beyond.
