Save the Date – Commemorations of the 200th Anniversary of the Charter and the 50th Anniversary of the Constitution

CEAD through its Research Area "State, International Society, Human Action," is pleased to announce the Cycle of 3 Commemorative Conferences, a national-scale event dedicated to marking two fundamental milestones in Portuguese constitutionalism: the 200th anniversary of the 1826 Constitutional Charter and the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.

In a decentralized initiative, the cycle will take place across three cities — Lisbon, Porto, and Portimão — proposing a journey of reflection on the evolution of constitutionalism in Portugal: from the moderate liberalism of the 1826 Charter to the democracy consolidated by the 1976 Constitution, addressing the constitutional challenges of both present and future.

The discussions will focus on the 1976 constituent process, constitutional evolution over the past half-century, the impact of the founding text on the consolidation of Portuguese democracy and its economic system, and the future prospects of national constitutionalism.
