Open Lecture - The War on Terrorism and Its Implications for Human Rights

CEAD will host an Open Lecture on 13 January 2026, entitled “The War on Terrorism and Its Implications for Human Rights”, which will take place in Room C.1.1 at 6:30 p.m.

The session will feature Maria Assunção Vale Pereira, Associate Professor at the School of Law of the University of Minho, a distinguished researcher in the field of International Law and Human Rights. The speaker will critically examine the impact of counter-terrorism policies on the protection of fundamental rights, analysing the legal and ethical challenges faced by States and international organisations in the contemporary context.

This Open Lecture aims to foster academic reflection and informed debate on a highly topical and relevant issue, bringing together legal, political, and humanitarian perspectives, and contributing to the critical education of students and the wider academic community.
