Open Lecture – The Humanisation of International Criminal Law and International Politics

9th of march 2026

CEAD Francisco Suárez invites the entire academic community and the general public to attend the Open Lecture “The Humanisation of International Criminal Law and International Politics”, to be held on 9 March 2026, at 08:30, in Room C.1.2 at Universidade Lusófona – CUP, located on Rua Alexandre Herculano (Novo Pólo).

The humanisation of International Criminal Law has become one of the most thought-provoking axes of contemporary debate in International Politics. Far from being merely a legal movement, it reflects a profound transformation in the way international society understands the value of human life, the legitimacy of the use of force, and the role of international organisations in containing violence. This session will feature the special participation of Dr Mário Lourenço, PhD candidate in Law at Universidade Lusófona and Associate Researcher at CEAD Francisco Suárez. The speaker will offer a timely reflection on the Humanisation of International Criminal Law and International Politics at a moment of reconfiguration of the international order.
