On April 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., CEAD Francisco Suárez will host an Open Lecture entitled “Joseph S. Nye’s Soft Power and the Types of Power”, to be held in Room C 1.2 of the Faculty of Law and Political Science.
The session will feature Pedro Emanuel Mendes, Visiting Professor at NOVA FCSH and Integrated Researcher at IPRI-NOVA, who will explore the concept of soft power developed by Joseph S. Nye, as well as the different types of power within the context of contemporary international relations.
This open lecture aims to foster critical reflection on the forms of influence and power projection in the international system, addressing the relevance of soft power in diplomacy, foreign policy, and the image-building of states and organizations.
The event is intended for students, researchers, and all those interested in political science, international relations, and strategic studies.
