Registration is now open for the 4th Luso-Brazilian Conference on Religious Freedom, an initiative jointly promoted by the Brazilian Institute of Law and Religion (IBDR) and the European Institute of Law and Religion (IEDR), in partnership, with the Lusófona University – Lisbon University Centre as co-organizer.
The Conference continues a cycle of highly relevant academic meetings which, in previous editions, addressed foundational themes such as “UN Agenda 2030 and Religious Freedom?”, “Hate Speech”, and “A Constitutional Right to Religion?”. These reflections provided a solid foundation for further exploration of increasingly current and complex issues, culminating in this 4th edition under the theme “Immigration, Law and Religious Freedom.”
The event aims to promote academic and legal debate on religious freedom within European constitutional contexts, with particular attention to contemporary challenges related to immigration. It seeks to deepen understanding of the principles that ensure the free exercise of faith, to analyze existing tensions between state secularism and the protection of religious expressions, and to reflect on the complexity of coexistence among citizens from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds within a predominantly Christian European context.
The Conference also seeks to foster the exchange of experiences and best practices, contributing to the consolidation of the right to religious freedom in democratic and pluralistic societies.
