Vânia Simões

PhD in Law from the Nova University of Lisbon, with a Law degree and a Master’s in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, and postgraduate studies in Medical Law, Criminal and Health Justice, and Intellectual Property Law, also from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. She has been an Invited Assistant Professor at Nova School of Law and the Autonomous University of Lisbon and is currently a Lecturer at Lusófona University and ISCAL. She was the recipient of the Teresa Rosmaninho Award (4th edition), the APAV Research Award 2023 (9th edition), and the NOVA IMPACT Award (2nd edition). She has participated in several legislative procedures with the Health Committee. She is featured in the European Parliament’s April 2024 report “Obstetric and gynaecological violence in the EU – Prevalence, legal framework and educational guidelines for prevention and elimination” as a specialist interviewed for the Country Report on obstetric and gynaecological violence.

She is the author of numerous national and international publications and has been a speaker at dozens of conferences in Portugal and abroad. She currently serves as President of the Portuguese Association for Women’s Rights in Pregnancy and Childbirth and as rapporteur for the Human Rights Observatory.
