Maria Teresa Sarmento
Teresa de Moraes Sarmento holds a Master’s degree in Public Law, a PhD in Political Science and International Relations, and serves as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, Universidade Lusófona, where she teaches European Union Law. Since 2018, she has been the President of the Monitoring Commission for Justice Auxiliaries, a role she fulfills alongside her teaching duties. She is also a thesis supervisor and examiner for Master's dissertations.
An attorney since 1992, she has intermittently practiced law, though her legal practice is currently suspended at her request. Teresa has held various senior and mid-level leadership positions in public administration, including:
- Deputy Director of Municipal Services,
- Deputy Director-General at the Directorate-General for Justice/Ministry of Justice,
- Director of Services at the Ministry of Health Training Center,
- Project Leader of PROFAP (Presidency of the Council of Ministers), managing structural funds (ESF and ERDF) for Public Administration modernization.
She was a collaborator at INA (National Institute of Administration) from 1993 to 2018, providing training to technical and senior staff in public procurement, the legal framework for public administration workers, the Administrative Procedure Code, and EU funds.
Teresa represented the XIII Government in negotiation forums and was a member of the Socialist Party's Reflection Group during the XIII Government, contributing to the modernization of Public Administration. She served as a Member of Parliament for the Socialist Party during the X Legislature and as a local councilor from 2013 to 2016, in addition to holding other party-related positions.
