Edília Mendes Rodrigues
Edília Mendes Rodrigues graduated from the Faculty of Psychology at Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon. She holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology and Social Exclusion and a PhD in Forensic Sciences, specializing in Forensic Psychology.
In 2023, she completed her doctorate with a thesis entitled "Severity of Punishment in Gender-Based Violence: A Legal-Psychological Perspective on Judicial Responses in Cape Verde," supervised by Professor Carlos Poiares. During her master’s studies in 2012, she undertook an internship at the Santos-o-Velho Parish Council, where she developed the project "Shadows of the Present," aimed at supporting the elderly community in the area.
She also presented a master’s dissertation titled "Parenting Styles and Youth Aggression: A Legal-Psychological Perspective on the Realities of Bairro 6 de Maio, Casal da Mira, and Cova da Moura," under the supervision of Professor Purificação Horta. She is internationally certified in performance and personal development coaching by the ICC (International Coaching Community).
Since 2015, she has been a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and resides in England, where she works in a psychiatric hospital for adolescents. In her professional role, she works with teenagers and young adults experiencing psychological challenges such as autism, psychosis, ADHD, eating disorders, depression, and more, with a particular focus on community-based interventions.
She is the co-author of the following articles:
- "Toward Strengthening the Capacity of the Health System: A Cross-Sectional Study of Factors Predicting Quality of Life in 545 Nigerian Children Exposed to Sexual Abuse."
- "Domestic Violence in Portugal: Contributions from a Legal-Psychological Perspective."
