Cristina Borges de Pinho

Cristina Borges de Pinho is a PhD candidate in Legal-Criminal Sciences at the Faculty of Law, Universidade Lusófona – Centro de Estudos de Lisboa. She holds postgraduate degrees in "Civil Law" and "Law in Action" and earned her Law degree from Universidade Livre de Lisboa, graduating in the 1981/86 academic term with a specialization in Legal Sciences.

She has served as a lecturer at Universidade Livre de Lisboa, the Instituto de Altos Estudos Militares, the Faculty of Economics at Universidade do Algarve, and Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa. From 1987 to 2015, she was an assistant professor for Criminal Law courses at Universidade Autónoma. Since 2004, she has been a guest lecturer at the same university, teaching modules such as “General Theory of Criminal Offenses,” “Special Criminal Law,” and “Criminal and Procedural Practices” as part of the Specialization Course for Admission to the CEJ (Center for Judicial Studies).

Currently, she is a guest professor at the Faculty of Law, Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário de Lisboa, where she teaches Criminal Law I, II, and III, as well as History of Law I and II. She coordinates and lectures in the postgraduate program in “Criminology and Criminal Investigation” at this institution. She is also a guest researcher at the Francisco Suárez Advanced Legal Studies Center (CEAD). A member of the Portuguese Bar Association since September 30, 1988, she holds professional license number 7634L. She was a founding partner and administrator of the law firm “Pereira de Almeida e Associados, R.L.” until 2019. Since February 2020, she has been a founding partner of “WL – Work in Law – Sociedade de Advogados, S.P., R.L.” and has served as its administrator.

She began her professional career as a corporate lawyer and went on to lead the Legal Department of several national and multinational companies in the textile, IT, and construction sectors. This experience provided her with extensive expertise in corporate law (mergers, spin-offs, transformations, oversight, dissolution and liquidation, insolvency, recovery and revitalization processes, MBOs, among others), regulatory law (with a focus on labor, social security, road safety, economic matters, and public health and environmental violations), contract law (both private and public), civil liability (contractual and non-contractual), labor law, and general civil litigation.

In addition to consolidating her expertise in corporate litigation, she has applied her academic background and skills to legal practice in the areas of criminal and regulatory law, as well as family law, with a particular focus on children’s rights and the legal implications of domestic violence on family relationships. Her primary practice areas include: Corporate Law, Criminal and Regulatory Law, Domestic Violence Law, Family and Juvenile Law, Contract Law, and Civil Liability.
