Carlos Alberto Poiares
Carlos Alberto Poiares holds a degree in Law from the University of Lisbon and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Porto. He served as an assistant and professor at the Faculty of Economics of the Nova University of Lisbon (1979/2012) and as a professor at the Faculty of Law of the same university (2003/2007). As a guest full professor at ULHT, he teaches at the School of Psychology and Life Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Education, and Administration. He designed the Forensic Psychology master's programmes (2006/2015), accredited by A3ES, having directed the first programmes between 2006 and 2015. He was the director of the organic unit of Psychology (2006/2015) and has been serving as the vice-rector of Lusófona University since 2013.
Author of numerous works in the field of Criminal Psychology, Justice, and Social Exclusion, he has published dozens of articles and several books in his dedicated scientific area. He founded PSIJUS – the Association for Juridical-Psychological Intervention – of which he is the president. He has also published various literary works (poetry, short stories, novels) and, in 2008, established the Center for Arts and Psychology at PSIJUS, where a theater group was formed. In 2006, he was honored by the President of the Republic with the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique.
