Connection of the Faculty of Law of Universidade Lusófona to the Community - Organization and participation of Professors from the Faculty of Law in the X Pernambuco Safe Work Congress

Between the 11th and 13th of November 2024, in the auditorium of the Escola Superior da Advocacia (Brazilian Bar Association - Pernambuco Section), the Regional Labor Court of the 6th Region and the other institutions that form the Interinstitutional Working Group of the Sixth Region – GETRIN 6 – promoted the X Pernambuco Safe Work Congress, with the theme: “Safety and Health at Work: Indicators of Environmental, Social and Governmental Responsibility.”

With the event, the aim was to achieve, among other objectives, the dissemination of data and information regarding health and safety at work, reflection on public policies to defend the working environment and social assistance to victims of work accidents , but it was also intended to establish a true social and interinstitutional dialogue regarding the topic, involving guests from GETRIN's sphere of activity and intervention.

GETRIN is made up of different public and private institutions and brings together different sectors, namely the Judiciary, the Executive, Public Prosecutor's Office, Law, Non-profit Associations, but also representatives of professions that work in the intervention space of the Group, such as, for example, Occupational Safety Engineering. Universidade Lusófona is part of GETRIN 6 and is the only foreign educational institution to make up the Group.

The Congress had five panels, with the following organization:

- ESG in labor relations;

- ESG within the scope of engineering and occupational safety;

- ESG, mental health and work; - ESG and production chains;

- ESG and work accidents.

Professor António Monteiro Fernandes gave the opening conference with the theme "The European regulatory framework for health and safety at work and the challenges of business management". Professor Marlene Ferreira Mendes presented the following topic "The contribution of Portuguese courts to preventive compliance in health and safety at work in the corporate world".

Our participation in the event resulted from the Technical Cooperation Agreement signed on July 25, 2023 between the Regional Labor Court of the 6th Region, the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário de Lisboa, and the Center for Advanced Studies in Law ( CEAD) Francisco Suárez, through the Judicial School of the Regional Labor Court. It should be noted that the Technical Cooperation Agreement aims, among other objectives, at “sharing knowledge and experiences among the participants, regarding health and safety at work, as well as accident prevention”, as well as “the development of programs educational and joint research projects that result in effective complementation of available human, material and information resources”.
