Sustainability is an unavoidable objective today. In 2015, the United Nations presented the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. From environmental policy to production and consumption, sustainability requirements are imperative. Therefore, the Law must also integrate sustainability into its various normative frameworks, legal dogmatics must think of it as a fundamental principle of the legal system and must develop the procedural means for its protection.
The Portuguese Nucleus of the European Law Institute (ELI), established in August 2023, chose the theme "The Multilevel Governance of Sustainability" for the period 2023-2026. As part of its activities (which can be seen here), the 1st Conference of the Portuguese Center of the ELI will take place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto, on May 22, 2024.
With the theme "The Challenges of Sustainability for Law", it will feature eminent Portuguese experts who will debate over three panels:
1. “Sustainability as a principle”;
2. “Climate justice”;
3. “Corporate and consumer sustainability”.
This will be an opportunity for the Portuguese legal community to discuss a fundamental topic that calls upon us as jurists and citizens. We invite all interested parties to participate.
Participation is free, subject to registration using the form that can be found here.
