José Francisco de Faria Costa

José de Faria Costa is the Director of the Faculty of Law at the Lusófona University. He serves as a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law at the Lusófona University. He previously held the position of Full Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Coimbra. He was a guest professor at the Faculty of Law at the Nova University of Lisbon (pro bono) during the periods of 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. He also served as the Ombudsman of Portugal from July 2013 to November 2017, during which he was a member of the Council of State. Additionally, he has held the position of Member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary and President of the General Assembly of the Center for Medical Law. José de Faria Costa is the author of numerous monographic studies and more than two hundred articles in the field of law, particularly in Criminal Law and Philosophy of Law. He is a member of the leading national and European journals in the areas of Criminal Law and Philosophy of Law. Furthermore, he is also an accomplished writer and poet. In December 2017, he was honored with the Grand Cross of the Order of Christ by His Excellency the President of the Republic.
