Jorge Godinho

Jorge Godinho (Lisbon, 1965) is a researcher in gambling law and criminal law. He is an associate professor at Manuel Teixeira Gomes Higher Institute in Portimão, where he teaches criminal law. He is a visiting professor at the University of Macau, teaching gambling law and criminal law, and previously served as an associate professor and the initial coordinator of the master's and postgraduate programs in International Business Law. He holds a Ph.D. in Law from the European University Institute in Florence (2006), a Master's in Law from the University of Macau (1999), and a Bachelor's in Law from the Faculty of Law at the University of Lisbon (1989). He practiced law in Macau and worked in the Macau government. He has books and academic publications in Portuguese, English, and French, with some translated into Chinese. In 2001, he published the first comprehensive treatment of money laundering crime in Portugal (Do crime de branqueamento de capitais: introdução e tipicidade, Almedina, Coimbra). In 2007, he published the first extensive treatment of Macau law in English (Macau Business Law and Legal System, LexisNexis, Hong Kong, 2007). He translated the Commercial Code of Macau into English. In 2016, he published Gambling Law, vol. 1, CREDDM, and Rui Cunha Foundation, Macau. In 2019, he published The Casinos of Macau. History of the World's Largest Gambling Market, Almedina, Coimbra.
